Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, or Braddah Iz as he was more commonly known, was a native Hawaiian musician. Facing future I see hope. Indeed, “Facing Future” has remained on the World Chart for an astonishing 493 weeks with “Alone In IZ World” staying there for 300 weeks (all in the top 5), each with no hint of faltering. The release of “Alone In IZ World” garnered articles in the prestigious Washington Post and Chicago Tribune and again, more fans followed.

I first heard his rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow at the end of the movie Finding Forrester with Sean Connery. I was absolutely mezmorized and enchanted by the voice I heard singing as the credits ran. The fact that IZ had taken a beloved classic and made it his own did not bother me.in fact, I had heard the Judy Garland version so often I found the change refreshing. IZ was born in 1959 and died at age 38. He was a fierce Hawaiian national and pride in his heritage is exuded in his music. His voice is addictive and, for me, has the power to completely capture the soul and draw one in to the message of the song he is singing. For eclectic music-lovers, having an IZ cd or two will only enhance your music library.
This cd gives a very well-rounded sampling! Da kind of music that makes your heart smile Live Aloha Great CD by a truely talented artist. All of the songs are great, we bought it because of our favorite song: Over the rainbow, but the entire CD is great.
It would sound a whole lot better if we were actually in Hawaii relaxing in a hammock watching the ocean waves crashing, feeling the tropical breeze with the smell of plumeria in the air and sipping on a Mai Tai. Anyway, you get the picture, me and the entire ohana (family) give it 2 thumbs up.
